The Turner Centre...
There is definitely some mounting media now on The Turner Centre... Yes thats what it should be called, its a centre, not a contemporary. Just have a look at this here

Margate + Exodus = Success.
As these photos show.
From what I can tell a good time was had by everyone, hopefully this is the first of many more art projects to be based in the glorious seaside town of Margate
Thanet, the art capital of the South...
Yes thats right. London is rubbish. Well, in terms of sunsets anyway compared to the golden beaches of Margate.
The Isle of Thanet is really starting to bustle now artistically, whether the Turner Centre appears or not, its great to see people expressing themselves.
For new of everything brilliant in Thanet.
http://www.artsandelbows.blogspot.com/Big shout as well to
http://bignewsmargate.blogspot.com/Margate and its surrounding area come highly recommended on a scale of recommendability.
Poor Mans Blogging...
I take quite a lot of interest in my hometown of Margate. Needless to say as I too am a blogger I spend some of my time reading other peoples blogs on their opinions and activities around Margate. One in particular recently has hit quite a nerve. Known as The Isle of Thanet Gazunder its main reputation I would say is that it is known as a "comedic" look at the Isle of Thanet (where Margate is).
Unfortunately I feel that this blog falls far too short of its desire. It’s not clever or hard to put Margate or any other part of Thanet down for its imperfections, which it has an abundance of. For all its problems, there are people doing their very best to make the area a better place to live, and with the right levels of dedication over time this will be achieved. Blogs like The Isle of Thanet Gazunder only cloud hard work done by such people by not acknowledging them, which is sad as I am sure that the blog is one quite widely read.
I for one would much rather read about all the good things happening in Thanet (a reason why I enjoy reading Arts and Elbows so much). As an ‘outsider’ to Planet Thanet I can pass on knowledge that the more negative subjects people read about the area the less likely they are to want to visit, thus creating a vicious circle of non happenings in the area.
Returning as recently as I have, and going back as soon as I am, I’m glad to report that Thanet and Margate are going in the right direction. The Turner Contemporary may not have the most popular or glittering past, but finally the project is heading in the right direction with the right architects. There is no reason to belittle the project just because the council has not done a good job of it thus far. As much as I dislike the council as well I am willing to accept that taking on a project on an unprecedented level such as the Turner Contemporary comes with mistakes and a degree of learning curve.
Also old town Margate continues to thrive even though the main high street seems to have left them behind and moved to Westwood Cross. Cafes such as impressions look to be doing great business, whereas pubs such as Barnacles maintain their local but warm charm.
There is room for blogs that continue to give the rough with the smooth as news, but blogs which only choose to show a bad side to Thanet and Margate must realise that how they portray the area can do no good for its current residents.

Hits a nerve.
I was reading the other day one mans views on Turner, and how he believes that it is hard today for working class people to get into the art world, and make themselves heard.
I know it is only his opinion, and my one is no more valid than his, but I feel a need to tell anyone who may be reading this, and is an artist, that you CAN become a artist, a retailing artist. You might not be able to live off what you make, but you really can do it.
Since GCSE's I have struggled to come to terms with art in practical. I moved on to do theory work, and by the time I was 19 and helping in workshops in Leicester, I hadn't done a sole thing arty in around 4 years.
Admittedly within a few years, I was still only drawing crude donkeys, and turning everything into something Sodje related, but I was creating.
Three years on from then, almost 4, I have done numerous things, I've set up all these blogs which are by my own addmission "Awesome", and I've made badges and keyrings, and designed flyers, and i've even started making cups, t-shirts, shot glasses, and greetings cards, all of which sell.
I may be poor, but my work and name is out there, and everytime someone buys a onelosthousemate greeting card, they'll notice its me.
EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE has the ability to be creative. In all types of senses, from Painting to playing a musical instrument, but you just need to the will to do it, and do things, and make things, and create things that you think are great. Because thats who we make art for in the end, ourselves, because if its not pleasing us, whats the point.
and if your the biggest art person in the world in your view thats all that matters, be it shown in the Tate, or on your fridge door.
Theres always an outlet for all types of artwork, I just hope everyone finds theres.
The picture shown, is some uber rare onelosthousemate greeting card creations.
Graffiti of Leicester.
Lots of strange graffiti has been going up in Leicester over the last few months, even saw a bankys the other day. But this really does take the biscuit.
What is the graffiti like in Thanet? Or where you live? Does anything match up to Jarrod Rebecchi, after all, he is a good man.
Sheilas work
I used to work with a lovely lady called Sheila, and at christmas I got to see her work at the open exhibition. Around a month ago however she had her solo exhibition at the upstairs gallery (imaginatively titled).
Her work is excellent, and if she did commissioned pieces, i'd highly recommend you take her up for it. But she doesn't, and you probably live in a caravan anyway, and that would just look daft
or would it?
