Hits a nerve.
I was reading the other day one mans views on Turner, and how he believes that it is hard today for working class people to get into the art world, and make themselves heard.I know it is only his opinion, and my one is no more valid than his, but I feel a need to tell anyone who may be reading this, and is an artist, that you CAN become a artist, a retailing artist. You might not be able to live off what you make, but you really can do it.
Since GCSE's I have struggled to come to terms with art in practical. I moved on to do theory work, and by the time I was 19 and helping in workshops in Leicester, I hadn't done a sole thing arty in around 4 years.
Admittedly within a few years, I was still only drawing crude donkeys, and turning everything into something Sodje related, but I was creating.
Three years on from then, almost 4, I have done numerous things, I've set up all these blogs which are by my own addmission "Awesome", and I've made badges and keyrings, and designed flyers, and i've even started making cups, t-shirts, shot glasses, and greetings cards, all of which sell.
I may be poor, but my work and name is out there, and everytime someone buys a onelosthousemate greeting card, they'll notice its me.
EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE has the ability to be creative. In all types of senses, from Painting to playing a musical instrument, but you just need to the will to do it, and do things, and make things, and create things that you think are great. Because thats who we make art for in the end, ourselves, because if its not pleasing us, whats the point.
and if your the biggest art person in the world in your view thats all that matters, be it shown in the Tate, or on your fridge door.
Theres always an outlet for all types of artwork, I just hope everyone finds theres.
